Why is taking a break from social media so important?
Episode 42
When I was in the middle of quarantine, stressed, worried, constantly thinking about the future, I would sit on my phone for hours. Sometimes looking at videos, other times, falling into a complete comparison on who I wanted to be, what I wanted to look like.
Which honestly was the biggest waste of time, why?
Because those hours I could have spent doing those things to develop the life I wanted. Those hours could have been used to design a new course, develop a new program, book a trip, work out, cook a protein heavy meal etc.
Social media constantly takes us out of the present moment. Think about when you are with a teenager, and their eyes are glued to the screen, sometimes they don't even look up from their phone when you’re talking to them, it's because they’re being transported, to somewhere else, to the future, to this fantasy life, which at the time may give them an escape but how does it actually make them feel?
I know from my own experience, not great. Until…I started following the RIGHT people. Now I only follow a specific type of person, a nice person, a driven person, that shares the good and the bad. I also limit the amount of time I am on this app. I don't waste time, instead I am on here to talk to clients, and get off. Why should we waste time here? There is no point!
I practice not being connected to my phone all of the time. When I am working I need my phone, when I am not, why can't I leave it home? Who actually needs me that badly? Remember, before cell phones you couldn't get in touch with people in a pinch, and there was a peace to that. Finding a happy medium will give you peace and freedom.
